  1. Most of the prior threads I have found refer to using a netHASP, hoping to find someone who has knowledge of doing it using a non-netHASP key.

I have tried a few remote access options which haven't been all that great as I don't have the use of my 3d mouse, and running remote access seems to be more like a screen share; the size of the text leaves a lot to be desired when displayed on the smaller screen of my monitor at home.

  2. Wondering if it is possible to use VPN from home to run Mastercam with a HASP on the computer at the shop. We have a single seat with a HASP, not a netHASP. Trying to find out if anyone has been doing this already since it would require additional hardware at the shop...our router supports VPN as a pass through only, so may need to upgrade to a different router to even try it.

  3. So, I checked in the MD, and tried it a couple of different changes in the settings there... I did get positive numbers with some of the changes, but the rotation was still going the wrong way for what it should be on the part.

For now, I went back to the original file and changed the signs of all rotational moves to get through this part. I will have to work on getting the post corrected for the next similar job that comes along. Thanks for your help JP, I will keep working on it. We don't get a lot of this, so I will have some time to mess around with it and get the post checked over before the next ones come along.

  4. Trying to post a 3d contour, using axis substitution for Y-axis. I have done it before and made a similar part successfully, but with the one I am doing now I keep getting negative rotation when I need positive (cutting a slot, and it is wrapping around the part the wrong way). I seem to be having a mental block trying to get the rotation to change to positive.

I have tried the post I had done the other part with as well as a generic 4axis mill post, both give me the same rotational output, so I am thinking it must be in the MMD that I need to make the change. Any thoughts would be helpful.

  5. Under Settings-Configuration-Converters, select soilds in the solid import section and check the import Solidworks history box.

We have both programs loaded here so I am not sure if it affects it to not have Solidworks installed (never bother to import the history myself as I usually have SW open on another screen)

  6. What control is on the machine?

A custom drill cycle could do it also, in Mastercam or a custom macro. Also could be done by overriding the rapid rate at the machine by a parameter change, but that may affect more than just the retract rate in the canned cycle.

  7. I think those settings would be in your control definition or your post, and you should be able to get the posted NC file to generate without those lines of code included.

What is in the .err file? That is the error log which should be helpful to track down just what the error is.

  8. Sounds like you have the "Send to Machine" box checked. If you uncheck that box, your posted code will be sent to your default NC file directory (unless you have set a different location using Project Manager or change the save location when you are posting) and not attempt to send directly to the machine through a communications port.

You can set it to unchecked in the Post Dialog Defaults tab of the System Configuration. Click on Settings-Configuration-Post Dialog Defaults to get there to change the default state.

  9. Great thanks Uncle Dolan... Would you happen to know how to change all the canned cycles to a positive Z in the post? Or maybe in control or machine def? I want to be able to put a negative Z in mastercam so the verify works but I need it to post a positive z in the code... It is for a old Bridgeport 308 machine that is the way the canned cycles work...

    Thanks

    Darin,

Not sure if it is one that is included in the X6 installation, but you could look for a TORQCUT post which would be for a Bridgeport control and should output your canned cycles with z+ values.

  10. revised build.... Thoughts?

Just wondering, why the 2.5" VelociRaptor drives? The 3.5" version is less $ and have built-in heat sinks all around. Looks like a killer machine though either way.

I recently did a budget machine upgrade at work. Used the Intel 520 SSD and VelociRaptor 600GB (single drives, no RAID arrays) with an i7-3770K on an Intel MB with 32GB ram. It was a HUGE improvement over the machine it replaced (Core2Duo based with only 4GB RAM), and all complete cost around $1100.

  11. Okay guys,

I have need of some technical advice. We are having our Ingersoll Bridge mill upgraded from an old Allen Bradley control to a new Fanuc 31i Control. On the old control the Work coordinate system was designated by using "H" values such as H06 = G54. We also used H07 = G55 on the same part.( IE the H06 was for the top of the part, the H07 was for a flange on the side), however, on the old system the operator could input a dimension from the print to get the offset amount from H06 to H07. My question is, Can I use G54 to set the intial work offset, then call up a G54.1 P1 to call for a pre determined(from the print) amount of shift for my G55?

    Any help is Greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Todd

There are multiple ways to do what you are asking. The way you mentioned should work, but you need to use the same offset that you are using in the program. You can't use G54.1P1 for the adjustment if you call up G55 in the program, they are different offsets.

I use G54-G59 (the primary offsets available in most Fanuc controls)if I only have a few fixture offsets to do work at, and use G54.1P1-G54.1P48 (extended offsets, which are options on some controls) when I need more than the six basic ones, or when I program a macro or a loop function and want to advance to the next offset. If you have multiple operators who will be handling it on the shop floor you might want to choose one way and do it that way across the board. I do all the setup as well as the programming, so bouncing back and forth between methods affects only me.

    John

  12. I'm just wondering what everybody prefers to use when 3D milling with ball mills. My dealer tells me that old school people use step over by distance while new school programmers use the scallop height.

Well, I guess I'm old school. I've always used step over by distance.

I'm finishing a race track shape with a 1/8" ball. I'll typically use a step over by distance to get the finish I want, probably .006 in this case.

What scallop height would you new school programmers use to achieve a polish free finish? And do you leave it the same regards of the size of the ball mill you're using?

    TIA for any replies!

I have used both methods, which one I use for a job mostly depends on the surface shapes and blend areas that I am trying to cut.

  13. If you have the custom cycle already written for the machine(what control?) as a subprogram, couldn't you modify it to have the values as variables and have it called as a macro (if you have the capability in the control)? Then modify your post to include that macro as a custom drill cycle with your required variables as data filled in like with any other drill cycle type.
