  1. WHEN PROGRAMMING IN MASTERCAM, IT ASKS FOR THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE TEETH.

DO YOU COUNT THE MISSING TEETH ON THE THREADMILL AS ACTIVE TEETH?

WHEN I COUNT JUST THE NUMBER OF TEETH ON THE THREAD MILL, THE THREADS

ARE MISSING AND TURN OUT JUST AS THE THREAD MILL WITH MISSING THREADS.

  2. I RECENTLY HAD AN APPLICATION WHERE I NEEDED MORE DEPTH THAN NORMAL FOR A 3/8" - 16 NC

EXTERNAL THREAD. I FOUND A THREADMILL WITH ENOUGH LENGTH AND ORDERED IT. WHEN IT CAME IN

IT HAD A TWO SKIPPED FORM ON IT AND I COULD NOT FIND A WAY TO USE IT IN MASTERCAM.

ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS REQUIRE MORE THREAD DEPTH THAN NORMAL AND I NEED TO FIND OUT

HOW TO USE THIS TYPE THREAD MILL.

    ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

  3. I have a part that requires a back spotface and I can't find a process in Mastercam to do this. The tool that I am using is a custom made

backfacing tool with an offset indexable insert. I will need to move off center of the hole, plunge down thru hole, move back to center

and then feed back to depth of spotface.

Is there anyway to do this inside of Mastercam?

    Thanks for any help.

  4. After updating to Mastercam X5, I have not been able to do depth cuts while rough mill facing.

The settings that I use is one way climb milling with the depth cuts set to .100

When I go to post this toolpath, I get an error message stating "Invalid Tool Motion Detected

Within Depth Cuts, Operations Require Regeneration."

I can change to Zizgag style milling and it works okay other than climb milling one pass

and then conventional milling the next pass.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Could it be a setting that changed in X5?

    Any help appreciated.

  5. Since updating to Mastercam X5, I have not been able to stage the next tool.

Not sure if this is due to my post processor or something that I failed to do

    while programming.

    Any help appreciated.

  6. finally a good part. this was a screw that turned off/on our sprinkler system that had been destroyed by a tow motor driver. the company had gone out of business and no replacement parts were available. i had to take the sample part and make a replacement from it. no print available. once i determined it was a 1 1/8"-4 threads per inch double lead i set out to program part in mastercam. after i turned o.d. to size i went to the threading and picked acme general purpose and found that 4 threads was not a selection under 1 1/8" dia. only 5 threads.

to make part, i chose a lead of 2 threads per inch with a multi-start of 2. using the multi-start the threading tool moved back away from the

end of part .250 every other pass. i was not aware of the multi-pass option until someone previously posted that it was available as an option. thanks!

one last question. Is part considered a 1 1/8" -4 tpi double lead or a 1 1/8"- 2 tpi double lead?

anyway our sprinkler system is back up and working.

    thanks to all

  7. we are planning on trying to re-run this part

this morning. will let everyone know the results

as soon as we are finished. the reason we had to re-make part was due to operator changing speeds

during the run. yes we are trying to run on a cnc lathe.

  8. I HAVE A 1 1/8" X 4TPI LEFT HAND ACME THREAD THAT HAS A DOUBLE LEAD. I PROGRAMMED IT FOR A

1 1/8 2TPI AND RAN IT TWICE MOVING THE STARTING POINT BACK .250 ON THE SECOND PASS. IS THIS THE CORRECT WAY OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING. ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

  9. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CUT A 2 DEGREE TAPERED BORE IN THE REVERSE ORDER, SAY STARTING WITH THE SMALL END AND BORING TO THE LARGE END. I HAVE ALWAYS BORED FROM LARGE END TO SMALL END BUT BECAUSE OF BORING BAR LENGTH I NEED TO REVERSE

    THE ORDER.

    THANKS

  10. I have 2 1/2 axis capability with my mastercam level one software. What is that referring to?

The reason I am asking is that I have a part to program and I need B axis to move while machining. Do I need to upgrade to level 2 or 3.

    thanks,
