Changing Inch programs to Metric

How would I go about changing a program originally programmed in Inch to Metric... Whenever I try this, the english tools are converted from inch values to metric values. As you can imagine, this makes for a very small tool.. Any ideas?

Welllllllllll,

In the post, if you're using lathe, you can just change "dia_mult" to 52.8, "y_mult" to 25.4, and "z_mult" to 25.4 as well and that will give you Metric Numbers. In mill these axis multipliers don't exist and you'd have to add them. I'm not sure how to do it exactly since I've not done that before.

use the editnci chook to open up the file. pick the nci file, select "xform", change x,y,z, scale to 25.4. tool information will remain in inch, program will be in metric, although the values will be to 4 decimal places. repost the new nci file.

you may have problems with the code, depending on how the original toolpath was programmed, (compensation in control, in computer. The safest way to change it is to scale the geometry up by 25.4, change the tool dia. to metric, and regenerate the toolpath. there may also be issues with feed and speeds. good luck!!

Thanks alot, I am used to using Cimatron and it was just a pick to change everything from metric to inch... Seems like alot of work to go through just to do that, but it will work wink.gif
