Help with machining a part.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a student who has a final project submission due next week and the problem is that I am stuck in not knowing to machine the 4 edges on each side of the circular work piece. I have tried numerous operations and they have ended up with the tool colliding with the workpiece, no appropriate toolpath when a plane is selected and the part not being machined properly in the simulation. I have searched the web and I could'nt find much helpful information to guide me and this is my last ditch effort. Help would be appreciated at this point!

Welcome to the forum!

If I understand the questions correctly, the easiest way would be to use a Contour toolpath doing a Y axis cross:

Obviously, you'll either need to model in fillets or edit the chains or start/end points for the solid edge to avoid crashing into the model, as your part is impossible to cut (without an EDM) as it stands.

Did I interpret your question correctly?

I don't understand your answer  I've tried all possible toolpath I can think off and they almost always lead to collisions whenever I change to the Y cross. I'm not sure how did you manage to get a solid chain from the particular edge as I'm only able to get it under wireframe chain

Sorry, I'm not sure how to be more clear?

I use a Milling > Contour toolpath, then, for selection, I used Solid Chaining on the default behavior: image.png.f921d80294c2912233cc091dc635fcc6.png
