Gildemeister Lathe

Customer wants to hook up an old Gildemeister Lathe with a Fanuc Mate L controller to his existing RS-232 serial DNC network.

Does anyone know if the Fanuc cassette reader can be replaced with a standard RS-232 serial port.

I've looked at BTR's from e-Manufacturing, called Gildemeister and Fanuc with no success so far.

As far as I know you can. You will need to find where the tape reader plugs into the control and then get a pin out of that plug - or - you may be able to get the standard Fanuc RS232 cable that goes from the control rack to a DB25 plug. Try GEFANUC at 1-800-433-2682 - I find they are more helpful and willing to help with these types of problems.
