We use a renishaw TS27R along with an MP10 inspection/setting probe and have found the combination very effective, especially wjhn combined with G68 axis rotation.

An area where I find it particularly usefull is when doing lights out machining, and situations when you need to know that the current tool didnt break before you run the next tool..ie a roughing tool didnt break before you start a finishing toolpath.

Im not entirely sure what you are asking with your job/offset question though
