Off topic: Catia & ProE question

When I look at the job classified section

I’ve noticed that some of the big company they use Catia & ProE, I think they pay pretty good

for the CNC programmer. I was wondering if those (Catia & ProE ) any powerful and as easy to use as Mcam?

 

Is Catia similar to Solidworks?

CATIA is by the same parent company as SolidWorks.. Dassault Systemes. Its a $45k/seat engineering package. It does pretty much everything.

Powerful, Yes very.

 

Easy to use, - No.

 

These two subjecs run hand in Hand. The reason they systems are more powerful in because they have more options to perform each given task. Unfortunatly more options equals more things to learn so hence these baby's are not easy to learn

No, Some of the menu's in Solodworks 2005 are similar to Catia V5 but the modeling methodology is different. Catia has more powerful solid modeling, surfacing and wireframe options

We have a catia design seat here and with our current customer base investigated switching from Mastercam and Powermill to catia for everything. Catia basic design, milling up to 5 axis, and basic turning added up to $60k per seat. All the bells and whistles would have pushed $100k. The reason why companies with this software pay so much is that as Greg said there is more to learn, and they probably are only looking for the creme de la creme anyway.
