Passing tool info on Mazak Lathe 640

The short answer is that it's probably not worth the effort as you won't be able to do it without a custom post.

Be prepared to pay big dollars because:

1) You'll have to load the tool data as a separate file that uses Macro system variables to assign the data types or learn the Mazak 3-Digit G-Code format for storing Native Mazatrol data.

2) You'll still have to properly tool set each tool to the tool eye.

3) You'll also need to load the setup data per each program but this information can be included as part of the EIA file header.

However, you'll still need to learn the Mazak 3-Digit G-Code format for storing Native Mazatrol data.

If you choose NOT to use the Mazatrol Tool Data and only the EIA Offset data page, you can only assign the TNR and imaginary tool tip orientation.

Even this information would have to be loaded as a separate file using Macro system variables.

The best way to familiarize yourself with this information is to download both EIA and Native Mazatrol files via the Tape I/O mode.

This mode will save both native Mazatrol and EIA data so you can look at the actual ASCII file created.

I would agree that it would be very difficult to do in a post, BUT we have done it in the past with a Zoeller pre-setter. No need to touch the tools off once loaded in the machine. The Zoeller was able to create the proper information for tool data and stored it in a DNC directory that the operator would load at the same time he loaded his program. This was done only for g-code programs. Native Mazatrol tool data is not fun to play with. There are many issues with uploading and downloading cleanly thru DNC systems.
