Hi All. I have cable modem to my computer downstairs in my house, and I'm trying to connect my wife to it (upstairs). I bought a "Linksys" cable/dsl router, and I'm wondering where the cables get plugged in. Do I unhook my computer from the cable box and connect the cable box to the router, then just plug in both computer cables to the router and hook them up to thier respective computers??

I'm not worried about the software issues now, just how to physically connect the cables..

Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!

Mike did you get the router type with network ports?

These are Usually 4 ports that are RJ45 type.

We call this a "SWITCH" or "HUB" router.

Ok this will have a built in firewall that you want to make sure is on. (Vary important)

Now take the Cable from the cable modem that was plugged in to your Network card on the back of your computer and put it in the port on the router being from the cable or DSL connection.

Now using the other ports you will connect these to the other computers.

Now comes the fun part follow the instructions in the book that came with the router about assigning IP addresses to the other computers.

This way this will act as an internal network.

Hope this helps.
