Can't open MC in new computer

Hello,

We have 4 Mastercam stations. And we have an application error when we try to open Mc 8.1.1

on our newest computer.

It has WindowsNT 4.0 with service pack 6.0,512mb RAM, Matrox Millenium Display 32mb,AMD 1400mhz.

When we try to go into Mastercam it says:"Dr.Watson for Windows NT. "An application error has occurred & is being generated,Mill8.exe

exception:illegal instruction(0x000001d),

address:0x690c7257"

We've tried reloading MC. Our MC tech/rep says MC wasn't loaded properly. We've done it on several other computers, and have been using MC since ver 4 a number of years ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paul B.

Paul B,

Welcome to the Forum. smile.gif What are the other systems that are running Mastercam? Are they all Win NT 4.0,sp6 with the same video card? Most likely Mastercam has been installed correctly unless it was not done using the Administrator domain. Try installing it from the Administrator domain. Beyond that, I would seek the advice of your Mastercam dealer. "Dr. Watson" is probably the most useless piece of Microsoft s*#t ever developed. mad.gif Good luck to you Paul smile.gif

Sounds like a graphics card problem, then.

Have you tried to got to Start menu -> Programs -> Mastercam 8 -> CNCReg, the ActiveX/DLL Components tab, and register the files mc8view.dll, mcbitmap.ocx and mclstctl.ocx? In my experience, that solves graphics problems most of the time. To register a file in CNCReg, you select the file, mark 'Register control' and click 'Apply'. You need Administrator priviledges to register a control, as CNCReg has to write to the registry database.

If the above does not work, you might try to download and install the newest driver for your graphics card, instead of using the driver that came with the PC, as it will then most likely be a problem in the driver for the graphics card.
