Assuming you have MCX. Select Machine Type you want to change, Settings, Control Definitions manager, Select Operation Defaults, then select the type of tool path you want to change defaults, select the grayed Parameters folder, then change the parameters to your new defaults.

Its been a long time since I've used V8, I think it should be close to V9. In V9 you go to main menu, Screen, Configure, NC settings Tab, Operation Defaults button, Click DEFAULTS.DF9 or the other being Metric, Then select The group of tool paths that you would like to change the defaults. For instance click 2D toolpaths, witch brings up all your 2D toolpaths. Say Contour, click on the grayed out parameters folder. Operation shows dirty (means nothing), tool parameters page shows up. Change your defaults here..

I noticed the feeds and speeds show up like I changed them in my defaults, at first. Then when I select tools from default library, They come in with their own speeds & feeds. This you have to right click on the tool to edit its' parameters, or create and edit your own tools and save them your own (named) library. To be able to call up your library, right click in operation manager, Job set-up, tools button, right click in tool manager, Change Library, select your named library.

PS. While your in Job Set-up page change Feed Calculation to (From Tool)
