Control error or Post error?

I had a gouge on Surface rough pocket that did not show up in verify and did not give an illegal arc error in backplot.

We have Haas controls and I had Arc filters turned on in my post...

Any way to check the NC file to see if it has an arc error without having reverse g-code verify?

This is worry sum for me as I have not had a gouge in 3 years.

Perhaps the control just had a moment?

The gouges are making an arc, so it appears it was not a strait line gouge...

I was using a 1" ball. The screw through the insert is so tight that the insert could not have become loose either... headscratch.gif

This happened to me about 3 weeks ago;

1" Ballnose, Surface Rough pocket, verify good .125 doc, .25 stepover, etc etc.

3/4 of the way down big loud noise.

Tool slipped down about 1/4 inch. Someone had ground the flat on the tool with a pedestal grinder. The screw wasnt even making full contact with the flat. This wasnt in our shop; Live and learn.

You might want to see if it happened to you.

We use mitubisi inserts with the screw that goes all the way through and the screw fits the hole so tight that there in no way it could have come out...

perhaps it was a rapid feed move and the gouge was deflection? headscratch.gif

As you can see from the pics there are no anomolies in the verify or backplot path...

But it is a one time run. can't see if it does it again..

headscratch.gif judging from the finish it does look like it was feeding very fast...

It would have to have done it on the roughing pass when it was conventional cutting, but it would have to pulled about .05" to deflect that much...

It gouged in 2 other areas at the same depth cut...
