ID & OD CUTOFF

Hello,

 

Has anyone needed to use an ID groover to aid in parting off a part? We often use .118 wide ISCAR cutoff blades but can cut everything off from the OD. Typically parts that need to cutoff beyond this range we will use a .118 wide id groover about .200" deep and meet it with the OD blade. Has anyone done this in MCAM with cutoff operation? Maybe lathe point op? I can get it to work with ID groove but I must pick left of cutoff point with the value being the width of selected insert. Any suggestions.

I sometimes part off from the id with a groove bar. the bar will actually catch the part. It takes some manual editing, but it beats having the part fly around in the machine. I've been doing this alot more lately.

I cutoff from the inside all of the time here on my single-spindle machines; particularly with larger parts because the part only drops a 1/2" or so instead of 4 or 6 inches into a part catcher. I usually groove the OD down as far as I can and then cutoff from the inside. I've done it in MCAM as an ID groove with some manual editing but never as a post-and-run kind of thing; sorry.
