Optimal virtual memory in Windows NT

There are plenty of schools of thought on this subject. One thing you can do is launch all of your apps that you use simultaneously on a regular basis. Use the Performance tab in the Task Manager to see how much RAM is being used. Then set both the min and max page file size to that amount.

Another "catch-all" option is to set both the min and max size of the page file to 1.5 times the amount of RAM. In your case, 128MB * 1.5 = 192MB.

Things to note...it's always a good idea to set min and max values to the same amount. This makes the page file static instead of dynamic. Windows never has to expend extra CPU cycles changing the size of the page file when you have a static one. Also, I recommend creating a separate partition for your page file and only your page file. It helps to set it as any partition except the primary one (usually C), because NT/2000/XP tend to put NTLDR and such on C, regardless of which partition Windows is installed on. Hope this is a start wink.gif
