Tool Paths in Solids(Rookie question of the day)

Hi folks,

I have created a 4.0 x 4.0 square with chamfers on the corners and extruded the base to .500 thick.(I created contour using wire frame and transform translate, to desired depth.)

Using primatives, I place a 1.00 boss right in the middle.

Using Toolpaths, contour,solids,chain, I try to pick just the base for contouring. MC picks the whole surface including the boss(which I want to save for another operation.)

How can I pick just the base for a solids tool path?

when picking the solid make sure that edges is the only one checked.
