computer speed

i am having trouble translating large files

(35000- 50000 entities). these are surface and wireframe files. if i rotate or move the model it takes about 2-3 minutes. it starts out fast then slows down as it progresses.

i have a pentium 4 1.8 133 bus speed

512 megs of ram

128 meg nvidia4 graphics card

7200 ata/133 hard drive

i believe my computer is fast enough, so i thought it might be some setting i would have to change in mastercam. changing the file allocations on config screen didn't help. does anyone have any suggestions. thanks frown.gif

Do you see a little disk looking icon down in the lower right-hand corner?

If so, from the Main Menu, go to File New. Save your file if necessary. Once that's done, then go to Screen Configure. Set your allocations to 32,000 32,000 1000 128,000 128,000

That should help. It sounds like your system is fine. Some times if you have a ton of small surfaces that helps to slow things down a bit. If this is a surface model and you have Version 9 with the Solids Add-On, may I suggest turning your Surface Model into a solid? One more thign you can try is RAM Saver. This will go through the Database and compact it making your file size decrease and can help things run more smoothly.

Hope that helps.

Hi James,

Does turning surfaces to solid cause size reduction in database?

Also does it cause reduction in calculation time?

I thought machining a solid require more time thgan surfaces.

Thanks

It can.

Toolpath calculation? - Probably not right at this moment, but wait a bit. There's some things coming through the pipe very shortly to address just that.

Generally this is the case, but if you select faces instead of solids(which is more tedious) this can cut down the time required to process.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.
