Turning on a variaxis

Has anybody ever tried this before? They say that it is possible, does anyone know the preparitory codes to do such a thing. Does the machine have turning cycles like a turning center or any way of running the table at an RPM.

The new ones do, but ours being about 3 years old did not have that option then.

I know it will work. I have a 730-5x I have done it on. They make a 630 that doubles as a vtl and will rotate the table at 1000 rpms, but unless you have that one there are no turning cycles and you will be limited to the rpms you can turn.

I didn't do any special prep stuff. Rotary 4-axis path with a dummy tool, and edit a little. Code comes out in inverse feed time. Worked pretty well. HTH

Ours is brand new, we are taking the bull by the horns and starting off with the hard machining processes first. Logical right. The machine is a 730-5x II, so there is no way to say put it in to some kind of grind mode and spin the table at say 300 RPM.

On the 730-5x II your max RPM for your C axis is 50 RPM (That's in the rapid mode).
