Hardmilling look ahead

We are trying to get a handle on hard milling here. We’ve got Roku-Roku VMC with a Fanuc 16i-MB control and I think the look ahead is slowing my feed rates too much and causing early tool wear, particularly on roughing tool paths with trochoidal motion.

I’ve tried the “High Speed” (M161) setting on the control and that seemed better but the acceleration/deceleration was definitely more abrupt. Is this setting appropriate for what I’m doing or does it make sense to adjust programmed feeds and speeds to match the observed feed rates you see while actually cutting and leave the look ahead settings alone?

Am I way off here? I need a brain check.

Thanks

Vince
