X3 Machine Definition Problems

I run X3 with windows vista ("dummed" down to XP service pack 2). Everything ran fine for 3 or 4 months, then I started having problems. Sometimes not always when I go to Machine Type and select my machine I get a "warning - machine definition not found" followed by an "error - machine definition not valid" then the machine definition menu management prompts and my machine definition file extension has somehow changed with alot of extra charaters. Can anyone help me?

Have you checked that your *.MMD and *.CONTROL files are directed to the right paths?

Computers are just 1's and 0's, sometimes things do get messed up.

I clean re-install is sometimes the easiest fix.

The .MMD and .CONTROL files are in the right folders, but what do you mean directed to the right paths?

Sorry missed "Sometimes not always", so what do you do after that? replace your .MMD file with a backuped version of your .MMD and then you are ok for some time?

Most of the time I can remove the machine.MMD file from the machine definition menu then just add it back and it works. When that doesn't work restarting the computer will.

Supreme Machine, defiantly sounds strange, have you tried a clean re-install of Mastercam?

I tried to re-instal X3 today but my CD-ROM would not read the disk. So I now have another problem, but I did find X2 MR2 service pack 1 on the hard drive. When I installed X3 I chose the option to remove X2. Should I have removed X2 and X2 MR2 manually before istalling X3? Also if I remove the X2 MR2 now will it mess anything up?

I don't recall reading or experienced any issues myself leaving or deleting X2 when installing X3. If you continue having this problem after you get X3 reinstalled on your computer I would contact the reseller or email [email protected] if I was you, you should not have this kind of issues.
