Lathe Post Question

I created a buffer to enable me to output the correct start point for the lathe canned finish cycle without having to worry about running the finish right after the rough. My problem is where I need to read from the buffer (ltlchg$ and ltlchg0$) the post has not read the next sub_op_id$ from the NCI file yet.

Can anyone tell me how to have the post look ahead and read the upcoming sub_op_id$ from NCI line 1018 from the ltlchg.

Thanks

You'll need to do this with the Parameter read and write functions. I don't know exactly how to do it, but I know it can be done.

As I understand it, when your post runs, if there are calls to the parameter read and write post blocks, the post will scan through the entire NCI file and capture the data you ask it too. You have to build logic statements that looks for certain parameter numbers. When it finds whatever you are looking for, it captures that parameter's value and assigns it to a variable that you've already created to hold that value (string or real number).

That is the basic concept, implementing it is something else of course. I'm not even sure this is the best way to go about it, but I'm pretty sure it can be done.

You can always contact [email protected] and ask for CNC Software's help. They usually want you to contact your reseller, but since you are actually doing the post building yourself and don't just want to pay someone to modify it, it will probably be ok.

That's cool. I've actually been to Pella Iowa, it is a beautiful town. I have family in Oskaloosa.

I'll do some digging around and see if I can come up with any examples. I'm assuming that you already have access to the V9 Post Processor Reference Guide? If not, you can download it from the FTP site. Using it in combination with the Mastercam X Post Processor Reference gives you the best post information...
