4 axis and 5axis questions

First time user... please bare with me if my questions are easy..

Trying to learn the 5 axis toolpaths on my own and do not understand some concepts and need some help

- Using the old style 5 axis toolpaths, what does it mean to select geometry to " comp to surfaces"

- What is the main difference between 4 axis and 5 axis ? Is it that the 5 axis is capable of extra rotation on a specific axis ?

- I checked the FTP site for sample files for me to learn however I do not know which ones are correct or need to be modified ( To me almost all of them look good). I've checked the X2 MR2 folder and the X3). Can someone let me know which files I can use ?

Up in the Cambridge area, you have a GREAT resource in In-House Solutions.

Your reseller should really be where you go for any initial information.

5 axis machining is not to be taken lightly.

I'm with John on this one, if you are exploring the 5th dimension it would be best to have ateast one sit down with your reseller. They will also have some great books with tutorial's in them.

But for the record, 5 axis tool paths use one more rotary axis than a 4 axis toolpaths...
