To create a tapered wall, lets say using Contour or Swept 2D but not have jagged step overs. By jagged I mean if you post out you will get a circle, then likely an X move up the next step diameter and then a Z pluge.

 

Can this be done (without surfacing...) to just have a continuous taper/helix?

Any other ways? I am fairly sure I have done this in the past at some point in my mastercam job life, but darned if I can remember, and I know that your way, John, wasnt it. All be it, that way I fiddled with and would work as well.

Threadmill with taper angle?

Can you make a contour with taper angle in the depth of cut and be done. Use a perpendicular entry and retract. If you wanted to get real fancy you could use finish on the depth of cut to exactly control the step down. So if you wanted to go every .005 and needed to go .250 then just take 50 passes at .005 finish and you get what you are after.
