Lathe Rough Cutting Air ?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Ok, haven't done anything major on the lathe. It's just a little Haas GT-10, but I've never had a problem. The last two parts have been driving me insane!!

It doesn't matter what i do, the roughing toolpaths on the O.D. cut air, tons of it!

Last part stock set at 1.25 diameter, roughing toolpath treated it like it was 1.75 diameter.

This part .500 diameter, roughing acts like it is 1.00 diameter.

I know they're both .500 bigger, but can't figure out why. I haven't changed anything, and I'm programming the same way i always have.

Help, please

What diameter have you set your stock to?

 

Are you using Stock Recognition?

Do you have "add line" or "extend contour" active in your Lead In / Lead out with an extra .250 in there?

diameter is set correctly in stock set-up.

stock recognition is set.

Lead-in, lead-out set properly.

Are you facing with with the ruffing cycle?

the facing operation is right before the O.D. roughing cycle. Same thing on both parts. the facing operation acts correctly, but the roughing cycle does not.

It would help to see it. Do you have the face of the part chainned in the roughing cycle?

i delete your roughing operation and recreate a new one and it works....

ok i found it

 

in the lead/in lead out parameter page , go to lead out > adjust contour

 

uncheck the extend toolpath .30 lg

I think the chain being extended by .3 for the rough is causing this.

duh! Thanks guys. you got it. I don't know why that was there, cause i never set it to that. I usually don't mess with that cause it never needs messed with.

i checked the other program that was acting funny and it was the same thing. lead-out extended .300

Don't remember doing that, but overlooked it any way.....brain fart!!!!
