Spline - Knurling

Anyone here ever created an external spline on a shaft by Knurling?

I'm looking at creating a spline 40mm long on the end of 25mm diameter bar.

 

I could single tooth cut it, but was wondering if splines can be created by knurling. The part is a shaft for an automatic transmision.

 

Any info you have would be appreciated.

The previous post on knurling (8-27) was very informative, complete with video link. I didn't know they made tapered knurls. Do a search.

Being a mill guy, i've been trying to find out how to knurl straight teeth on a tapered shaft for wiper motor shafts and this site has the best information and videos. We are ordering a tool for the wiper shaft, but it's in Switzerland. Your problem seems simpler and you may find something closer, but I would suggest checking out this site. They have many sample videos and you find what you're looking for.
