Solids to no solids

Gooday all,

 

1 - Imported parasolid file

2 - Save file in MC level 3 with solids option

3 - Vendor opens file in MC level 3 version without solids

 

What will happen? Will he be prompted for surfaces?

He will get Solid with no surfaces (.mc9 file).

He will get solid even though he does not have MC with solid option?

 

The vendor only has MC level 3.

Yes, he can open solid (.mc9)file in solid body.

 

He can creat surface from solid.

 

But, he can not import(convert) solid file as solid and he dose not have solid toolpath features....

What will happen?

 

You will make your part as a solid.

Then create surfaces from your solid.

Save and deliver the surfaces (maybe with wire) to the seat that has the min. solid options.

After this job, I think I'll just tell the vendor to get off the $$$$ and get the solids option.

Well, somebody likes checken and somebody likes beef.

 

Option means you can live without it.

 

In some case, you can program surface toolpath faster than solid toolpath. Solid is very nice, also has its limitations. It is not "you must have" option.
