Do some of you Teacher/Instructor's get real Part prints from local Company's and Soft machine or really run the part at the shop where you teach so they can get a taste of what kind of work that is in your area?

Or do you think up your own?

I use a combination of my own, some tutorial prints and Industry prints. I have some really messed up industrial prints(you know, incomplete information, etc...) I like to give just so they can know what to expect if they ever become programmers.

Also, in my Advanced Class, their Mid-Term is a Team Project. I give them a forging die to machine. They don't have to create the geometry. Between 3-4 people they have to program it using a required set of tools, required offset location and I will run their projects. We don't cut as much as I would like because it takes up too much time.

Most of my high school students like to design and machine things they can use personally, like license plate frames, clock faces, plastic gears for projects and face plates for their car stereos.
