Cutting Threads

Hi All,

 

I am a newbie and would like to know the basics of programming threads, both lathe and mill on MasterCam.

It can not be explained in two words and very machine dependent.

PLZ specify what kind of threads ,on what machine and with which tool do you wish to cut.

It varies : only on mill it can be threading with a drill cycle and a taper ,Milling with a special cutter toolpath->circle path -> thread mill,with a cutter and a contour toolpath:ramp: ramp-> by depth and some more tricks .

Hello again,

 

I would like to program a US thread 60 degree 12 TPI. I guess my real question is.

 

Does MasterCam have built in programs to cut standard threads for either the lathe or mill?

There are !

I don`t have lathe but it exists too .

In mill it is toolpathes ->next menu->circ tlpth->threadmill .

If you wand to cut the cone thread build geometry with Chook thelix.dll and use toolpath contour !
