WCS

Has anyone used the new wcs for any 5ax positioning,or simultaneous work? Our 5ax post seems very dependent on how the toolpath is oriented to the top tool plane.I am not coming up with the correct rotations, and it seems I will still have to move the geometry so the part is more "normal" to the top tool plane.

Thanks,

Jon

Leave the WCS off, or set to the Top (for 4 and 5-Axis posts). You are entirely correct - the calculations are based on the toolplane and/or the tool vector which is directly influenced by the toolplane. The WCS effectively sets the Top toolplane. Any other toolplane information passed to the post through the nci file is *with respect to* the WCS you've used. Selecting a toolplane representing a compound angle, but using a WCS set to the same plane effectly makes your toolplane the Top, with a tool vector of X0Y0Z1, which will provide a rotary solution with a couple of zeros.

I should add that if your parts must be left in 'as designed' position, you should be able to use the WCS to select the origin and equivalent 'Top' toolplane on the part.

From there, use toolplanes around the part all with respect to the WCS. The post should pick up the angles from the toolplanes based on your new Top toolplane as defined in the WCS.

Someone can left me know if this actually works how it should.
