what is the easiest way to get surfaces from a point cloud?

Create spline manual/automatic, and loft the splines to greate a surface. If you're willing to invest in some software, there is Geo Magic that does a superb job.

Worked good, was able to create spline automatically with the points, saved alot of

time. Only question I have is some of the splines

don't look great meaning smooth transisions, is there a way to clean them up before creating the surface. And again thanks for the quick response.

I've done a bit of reverse engineering with a Microscribe 3d. Once you have the points you can delete any of the obviously erronious points. After you create the spline you can modify the control points or do a create spline blend. Between the two you can end up with some pretty smooth surfaces.

Do what Roger said. It's under modify Cpts NURBS. You can either dynamically move the control point or give it absolute values.

Thanks again for the help Roger and James, I seem to have gotton the curves I need but can't seem to get a surface on them, Mastercam just sits there with the hour glass. I may be doing something wrong. I will try and get a file to the ftp site, I greatly appreciate the help!!

what type of surface and what type of surfacing operation are you using. I have found the more points you use to creat your splines the harder it is to creat surfaces.
