Turning insert - 304 SS Interrupted cut

We're making an interrupted cut in some pretty nasty 304 SS on our lathes and having some trouble with the inserts chipping.

Anybody have an insert they would recommend for that type of turning?

Thanks!

I turn a lot of large stainless parts on a VTL and some of them are flame cut and not flat or round so we get some nasty stuff, the best I have found so far is Sandvik 2025 grade. Dont have much problem chipping but the edge wear gets pretty bad. Am still looking for a better alternative. Got some Iscar IC3028 grade inserts in to try, but havent got to run them yet.

we try about anything available, and the sumitomo grade beats all of them , and personally i am a huge iscar fan, but for this i got to admit that sumitomo is better

90% of our SS304 production is flame cut ring and they are cut really rough

We have the Sumitomo's also and I choose them for heavy interrupted cuts in steel, but in stainless I am getting better life out of the sandviks, maybe it is possible material or cutting conditions? I don't notice a big difference in tool life but the sandvik is longer but the price of the insert may not justify it either.
