Convert Geo. to True Type Font

Hey All,

I came across an engraving situation where I needed both upper and lower case lettering in a font that matched another cam system we use in our shop. The DXF created by the OTHER Cam system was not usable for driving tools. I got thru the job by creating the geometry I needed. My question is: Can I create a True Type Font from geometry, compatible with Windows, that can be imported as a note then converted to geometry for driving tools. This would be easier than merging each letter or symbol, scaling it then transforming it to where it needs to be. I can't be the first to have a need for Custom Fonts. Any help?

Do a net search for GCode2000, they make a TTFtoDXF converter that may be what you're looking for.

Sorry, add a space before 2000, GCode 2000

 

Not sure if it works in reverse. There may be programs available to do that, I know there are programs that let you make your own fonts.

It doesn't look like it creates a TTF from DXF though. Any other thoughts?

Try a search for something like TTF Edit or Create TTF..

Do you have CorelDraw? Type any True Type Font you like and export it in .DXF file. Open the file in MasterCam. That is it. If you want to create a true type font and use it in Windows, you may purchase a software name FONT MAKER or FONT FACTORY (? You may find a free share ware on web). Hope this will help.

I'm always running into goofy font issues myself..I guess that's what I get doing work for Industrial Designers....oh, wait..I'm an I.D. guy too.

 

Run some searches on the forum for "font","text", and "engraving". There are heaps on this issue that we've wrestled with. I've got the ttf to dxf shareware, and havn't really used it,but here is what it does.

Remember that it was written on Layer 0 unless you changed it.

 

Typically it is used to generate a tool path to engrave a sign.

A companion program Gcode95 will import the DXF file.

Then create Gcode Mcode to control a milling machine

or router to create the sign.
