Is there a way to change the amount of characters a line can output? We run Haas machines and the control will only accept 80 characters. If I had

my choice The smcname$ and spathnc$ commands would post from my mcamx5 or my mcamx6 forward for the pathway.Example:\MY MCAMX5\LATHE\NC\CARANDO\O10151.NC. I am using x5 and x6 with mplmaster and mpmaster posts.

between the formulas (or functions... I don't know which they are)

"strlen" and "brkspc", you should be able to come up with something. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll try to get it.

What if you just drop the "smcpath$" ?

That would only show the file name and drop the path.

Or you could start saving your files in a folder closer to the root (C:)

The reason I want to see part of the path instead of dropping "smcpath" is that I am still using x6 and x5. So until I get confident in x6 I dont want to write over an existing file.I want to sometimes compare the x5 to x6 nc files so if the pathway shows x5 or x6 it just gives me a reference for now. In the mean time I will check your suggestion. Thanks

You can see that in the file extension....i.e. smcext$

.MCX-5 or .MCX-6

Here is the output line in my post.

scomm_str, "MCX FILE - ", "\", smcpath$, "\", smcname$, "\", smcext$, scomm_end, e$

Here is how mine comes out now

(MCX FILE - \\\A1SBS\COMPANY\ENGINEERING\MCAMX\UNISON\\T\.MCX-5)

And without the smcpath$

(MCX FILE - \T\.MCX-5)

A quick call to a qualified person (your reseller) and they will probably give you exactly what your looking for if this isn't gonna cut the mustard.

HTH!
