Trouble importing solid models from SolidWorks.

Hello to all,

We have noticed that when we have a part configuration open in SolidWorks. We do not get the option to select the configuration in Mastercam. It only opens the file in the configuration that is open in SolidWorks however, if SolidWorks is shut down the option to open the file in what configuration will appear. We are currently using 6X MU1 and SolidWorks 2011 x64 edition. Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, has this been address?

Thanks Jerry

Jerry,

You need to open Solidworks and rebuild all of the configurations, hit the red/green stoplight icon to rebuild

If you're opening the sldprt into MCAM and not getting configurations to show properly it's because they need to be rebuilt and saved again.

Yes I have seen this in the office and that has cured the issue

and further if you're using Solidworks direct make sure the configuration you want into Mastercam is the active configuration you have active in SW

There are indeed some technical issues involved with trying to access a SolidWorks document from within Mastercam when it the document is open in SolidWorks at the same time. It has to do with locking of the data streams inside the document so that as far as Mastercam can tell, certain data - like Configuration information - is inaccessible.

We've run into the same issue when trying to open SolidWorks documents that have Mastercam toolpaths in them (from Mastercam for SolidWorks). If the document is open in SW, Mastercam can't access the toolpath data 'stream' in the document.
