File New - modify it?

Hi all,

When I click file new, is this a customisable template file?

Can I find it, alter it (setting levels/planes etc) and save it, so when I click file new in the next session, it loads my modified file?

Just wondering.

I'm trying to read up on these template files you guys are talking about but I'm a bit confused by the name.

 

Is a template file,  just a file of a Raptor fixture adn trunnion, (for example) that I merge my new part into before I get ready to machine it?

Yeah, it's typically a file set up which you basic/most used setup.

 

I have typically included base work holding, created base planes, levels, most of the things that are repetitive, file to file

 

Then I just  merge my geometry into it......and do a "save as"  this keep the template file as it was.......(PS, keep a zipped copy of it somewhere in case you forget and end up changing it, don't ask me how I know       )

You know because I know for the same reasons lol.... I already do this but the name template threw me off and now that I do 5 axis work I can see having planes saved as well making life a little easier.  Thanks JP

Just a suggestion, right click your template file, open properties - click "read only".

Then you won't be able to overwrite your file. It will say access denied when you try to save instead of save as.

I still keep a backup too, just in case...
