Lathe tool Libraries

I find the lathe tools are sometimes lacking in staying updated. Iscar  groove turn tools don't even show in the new catalogs as the #'s have changed.

Do we have to make these from scratch?

I'm sure anything you download from any vendor will have to be put into a master cam format. I figure its going to be a lot of work and time so guys

what's the best way ?

And yes I know a lot of you create your own tool libraries.  As I'm using more different tools its time to start something.

Any help? Best way to go?

We run Capto so all of the tools (500+) are built as custom tool files. It hurt at the beginning, but once it is done, it is done; buy a new tool every once in awhile and add it.

 

Not necessarily the best way, but that's what we do

Depending on the manufacturer, most of them provide a .dxf that you can download and use (with some modifications)

 

That's how I draw up all our Iscar, Harvey Tool, etc. tools and holders.

 

It's not point-and-click but it's better than doing it from scratch.
