Right now they program manually using a letter I guess R for the main Spindle S for the sub......reading, it looks as though the numbers can be substituted

T01.17

If it were that easy I'd get it but what the hell are they all for?

Then you add int he Heavy Tool options

Can someone help a brother out here   :)

Unless it is entirely different than all of my experience the letters are strictly Mazatrol. It's been a few years since I had my hands on an I machine but if memory serves it will be Txx.xx where the first two places are T# and the last two are orientation such as flash angle. You will not orient the spindle with an S###M19 like when skiving, the flash angle comes from tool data.

If you are going to use tool life, please be careful with group numbers. It'll buck you in the futt. In a hurry.

What control?

We use suffixes quite a bit here on our Integrex e-machines.
A quick example would be when using turning tools;
Keep in mind that every time you rotate the B axis your length A and length B will change. Therefore you need to have a different tool number, but since it is actually the "same" tool there will be no "physical" tool change. So you could use the same tool with different orientations.
