Hollow Verify Models

Hey Guys, there has been a lot of talk lately about hollow stock models.

I first started seeing these in X9.

I have been using this workaround for over a year now and it works for me

and perhaps will work for others.

I will never use an STL as stock in the Verify module.

But I WILL use a Stock Model with the shape defined by an STL that has been saved from the Verify module.

I have found that I need to use fairly tight tolerances for good results.

The trick I use is to first examine the stock model for visible holes and tears

that will allow you to see the inside and appears to be hollow.

The OPTI paths are real bad about making these little anomalies on your stock model

where the tool exits and enters the part in the middle of the wall.

So if you can visibly see any holes what you have to do first is to

make a dummy path in ops that will paint the solid tool over the area again

as the code runs through the Verify module.

This will heal the hole and produce a good STL to be used as a Stock model that will be solid in verify.

Sometimes though you will have a model that looks like a perfect stock model

but no matter what you try will still end up being hollow in verify.

When this happens to me I will check the stock model in ops and right click and

export the Stock model as STL from Mill Tool paths.  I never tried mesh before and don't know if that will

work as good as STL or not but it might.

Anyway,  redefine the Stock model with the STL I just exported from Mill Tool paths.

I find this works very well...if it doesn't work you missed a hole that was visible on the Stock Model

to begin with. That wrinkled surface on the side or bottom of the bulk of the stock....just face it with the solid tool @ 0

and the verify will fill the hole...

I have been using this trick for a very long time and it has never failed me.
