Haas factory USB upgrade

Does anyone know if a 2004 vintage Haas control (VF2ss in this case) with a 3.5 floppy can be upgraded to a factory style USB? 2004 I think is the first year of the round sheet metal and the blue text white screen, so it seems like it should. I know there's retro drives, but they are limited to being formatted to 1.44mb.

Also I've heard there's a point in Haas model years where adding probing just isn't doable. Anyone know the year and what's involved? I've hear if you have macros and quick code that's a big step.

I upgraded the exact year and machine 3 yrs ago to USB/Ethernet option as well as probing. Took them like 4hrs.

Awesome!  Roughly how did you go about that?  Did you get the parts from your local Haas dealer and then crack a book or two?

 

Edit: I didn't read all the way.... lol.  Roughly what did that all cost?  I know the probing must have been a big chunk.

I investigated the same issue on a 2002 model (think monochrome screen) it was the first try for Haas at networking. The card isnt supported and supplier is gone. IIRC I was told Haas has moved on.

IIRC the USB/Ethernet was around $1600 and the probing (spindle probe and tool probe), was around 10K.

there is some talk on P.M. about Haas obsoleting the 'coldfire' processor boards roughly around this era, so you might investigate a bigger upgrade now rather than a bigger $ upgrade later. This board might not even be related to the one for USB, so just a WAG on my part.
