  1. I'm running X4. using HSM 3d paths. It has just asked me if I want to update all paths with this tool. I didn't try to update the tool I had just retrieved a tool from the library.

This has happened a lot so this time I say yes just to see what happens and it changed tools on my old paths to different tools but kept the tool numbers the same. (scary!)

Here is a step by step list of what I'm doing to get the error

1)create a HSM core roughing path.

2)copy path and make it a finish waterline path

3)change the tool of the path from a Roughing cutter to a 1/2 ball nose(that I retrieve from library)

    4)refine the tolerances

    5)hit ok to generate

6)asks me if I want to update all paths using this tool. (there are no other paths using this tool)

    7)hit update tool

8)it changes the core roughing path to 1/2 ball nose. BUT!!!...makes both the waterline path and the roughing path to have the original tool number.

  2. We had an okuma salesman in here a few weeks ago and Okuma had some incredible deals you can get the MCX4020 in your price range.

we have an MC4018 (the precursor to the 4020) I love that machine. It will do exactly what your looking for. We paid 60 grand for it used.

We have an okuma cadet mate too, it's cheaper and I would never have another one. It might as well be a Haas or Fadal.

  3. Rickster

try going ahead and posting the program anyway just to see if the Gcode is right. sometimes even though it doesn't look like it renumbered the tools---it actually did.

this happens for me when I have two programs in the same file and the same tool is being used in different programs. (worth a try)

  4. I talked to Rob at CNC and he said there is no way to suppress the message. How disappointing! That little message is a big waste of time.

We used to be able to walk away from the computer and let it process now we have to babysit mastercam. Maybe this is part of the "any 6 year old can do it mentality." Because they think that we're not smart enough to know that if we tell it not let the holder hit there might be some places that don't get cut with that tool. curse.gif

  5. I mean "analyzecheck solid" in the drop down menu. Potentially if there is a problem with your solid, the horizontal slices may miss the problem area but if you force it start at -1.00 and there happens to be a problem face right at that depth, it may mess up your toolpath.

Whereas if you just start at 0 and machine down to -3 in one op it might actually machine at -.99 instead -1.00 where the problem lies.

does that make sense? I've had it happen in earlier versions.

  6. I use the HST paths with solids dozens of times a day, and I don't have these problems.

Greg, I break up my ops like that too sometimes, so that I don't have to use a super long tool unnecessarily. But I don't ever come across that problem. Have you tried checking the solid to make sure there is no problem with it?

CNC Wannabe, welcome to the forum. I always keep "Use Z depths" toggled on. Is that what you're doing, or do you keep it toggled off?
