Hi all, I find myself back on the jobs market and thought that this could be a good place to start.
I have considerable mastercam experience in the injection mould tool sector so if there is anybody in the north of england looking for a programmer/toolmaker please let me know and i will email my CV.
Thanks
Dave.
From what i understand Mastercam does not generate toolpaths from a solid. So when you toolpath a solid model MC converts solids to surfaces in the background and creates surface toolpaths.
This is what i was told years back when i used version 7/8, dont know if this still applies with X2 though.
Thankyou all!!!!!
Its nice to know that there are people that are willing to share knowledge!
I did not know that titanium could ignite! glad i asked the question!
Cheers
Dave.
Hi All.
I will be required to machine some grade 2 titanium for a prototype at work. I have never cut titanium before and was hoping for some tips!!!
Operations i will be performing include surface roughing, surface finishing, drilling, tapping and slotting.
Also should this grade of titanium be hardened/heat treated? if so can job be finished then hardened or roughed, hardened and then finished?
I know this is a big list of questions but i know that you guys will have experience that you can share.
Thanks in advance.
Not to worry found vids on MC web site.

Some pretty cool enhancements IMHO. Cant wait to try them out!!!
Hi all.
I have MCX2 MR1 SP1 installed on my work box:
Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 5000+ 2.6ghz
2 gig RAM
256 MB ATI RADEON X1300
running Windows VISTA
I have had no lag or crashing of MC at all on file sizes ranging upto 86 mb.
The only problem i had when i first installed MC was to do with the ATI GPU, i was getting laggy auto highlight and crazy things on screen, downloaded latest driver and in catalyst control disabled support dxt texture formats. This fixed my problems and it runs sweet as a nut now.
So far i havent seen anything that you guys are reporting and MC is open in one sesion for about 10 hours a day!
Hope this helps???
Dave.
Looks good but gives no indication of how Mastercam would perform (although i bet it would chew through toolpaths!!!). I just wanted to see if we could compare systems that people are using and not what "Dell recomends", we may find that performance peaks on slightly lower spec systems and people can get an idea of upgrades for their existing systems with out the £3000 price tag of a "Dell recomends". It was just an idea and i thought that it might have been interesting for people to see.
Regards
Dave.
Hi all.
Dont know if this has been done before, but to help people out in selecting pc equipment and configuring Mastercam i thought about this.
What if we agreed on a comon file, say a Mastercam demo part and a set of common parameters (tool, speeds and feeds, cut and arc filter tols, stepover and toolpath etc) then record processing time and post results in this thread. If everybody plays fair and lists their system specs then we can get a good understanding of what a "fast" PC is with regards to Mastercam.
Just a thought as i have seen a number of threads asking people to "spec up" pc's for Mastercam. This way we can see how PC's perform in the real world.
Dave.
Thanks Carl, as a test on the "loop de loop" prog i swapped G2 for G3 and vise versa and it worked perfectly will have to get post tweeked!!!
Nothing is ever straight forward!!!!
Hi all.
Question, can a mastercam post be configured to allow 3d arc filtering on a hurco without the ISNC option? I have searched forum and can only find ISNC based topics relating to arc filtering. Any help from hurco users would be greatly appreciated. (or anyone else "in the know"!!!)
Thanks in advance.
Dave.
Hi All.
First off im Mastercam to the core. Ive just started at a new company who use Hurco M/C centres and Visual mill Cam software. We will be looking to change Cam very soon and was wondering if anybody had used "low end" cam software such as onecnc etc then switched to Mastercam. I basically want ammo to convince MD to spend on Mastercam rather than save a few k and get something cheap!!! im looking for horror stories etc!!! Also how do Hurco's perform using Mastercam with full arc filtering?
Thank's in advance
Dave.
Thanks John
Heidenhain would be my preference but there is a huge price difference between controls and heid always comes out the most expensive, i was just wondering why?
