  1. We recently purchase a high speed attachment; up to 40,000 rpm to speed up our engraving. Per spec the depth needs to be a min of .005. For some reason we are now having a tool breakage problem. We are using a 3/16 x 60deg included engraving tool. At one point with the demo unit we were up to 25ipm with success. If anyone has used one of these attachments for engraving and has had success any info would be helpful. the material is 17-4. Just can't understand why with the brand new unit all hell has broken loose. I am going to try a 1/4dia x 90 deg and see if that helps. the 40,000 is set so I could use help with a better tool and feed rates.
  2. Yes...the feed rates are CSS. I'll check the machine def out.
  3. Looking for a possible solution for this. I'm trying to get some accurate cycle times using the backplot-info for lathe. Its showing more than double than what we feel it should be. I'm thinking its not calculating for constant surface feet. I'm not sure if there's a fix or a work around to get a fairly accurate cycle time. We have Cimco for an editor and I don't think that calculates for lathe accurately either...possibly for the same reason. thanks
  4. I haven't loaded X6 yet but was reading about the new Stock Model enhancement. If there's anyone using this feature can you give me some feedback on it? Someone also asked me if it could be saved as a solid (x_t) as well as an "stl". All the verification software I've known its always been the "stl". The blurb I read is that its"fully associative and has parameters that can be edited at any time similar to toolpath or solid operations". thanks for any info
  5. MU1 is installed. The way I've always renumberd is select all the operations...right click...select the renumber tools, starting tool number =1, tool number increment =1, length added = 0, dia offset add=0, renumber head unchecked, also renumber defaults to checked but I unchecked. Never had a problem in the past with this.
  6. No, I never sent this to S4A. This is the 1st time I've renumbered since installing X5 and it was a surprise result..."WTF". I've had the "H" and "D" value problem even in X4 when importing ops and changing tool numbers so the program can be run on a different machine. I know for X5 I put the "lock" on in the config...not sure if that could 'cause conflict in the software. Thanks, Dave P
  7. X5- renumber tools I've been working with X5 for the past 2 months or so. I've read some posts here on the subject but no solution or a work around found. I went to renumber and resequence the tools in my operations and it screwed them up pretty badly. My drill ended up a mill...a special tool I had that had a .240 dia on it went to .5 dia. Maybe something to do with rebuilding the NCI file??? I've also have had trouble with tool numbers not matching the "H" and "D" values when importing or changing tool numbers. Must have something to do with the new tool database format. "BUGS" that need fixing. I now have to be extra careful. Thanks,
  8. Our shop has air conditioning but not "controlled". No coolant control and I don't think any of the machines have been laser calibrated....and the machine(s) I was think about is 2001 vintage. More than anything right now I'll look into the laser calibration. I will have to ask the preventative maintenance folks on this one. We have had the ballbar tests done. The last place I worked did do the laser calibration but those machines had the linear scales so I assumed that the laser calibration was for linear scales...
  9. One I would think of doing is a Matsuura MC-660 VG with a Yasnac I80 control. Not sure if its worth the cost yet; thats why I'm inquiring. I haven't a clue whats involved.
  10. I'm looking into upgrading to linear scales on a couple of our machines. (Retrofit) Our customer(s) are asking for tighter tolerances that are next to impossible to hold with our present machines. Anyone with some info about this? Someone in the Northeast would be great.
  11. We are transitioning over to X5 within the next couple of weeks. My biggest complaint is that the got rid of the "GUI" tool list. I don't know how many out there feel the same way. I will probably take one of the classes to learn how to modify the Active tool list which means time away...there is a tutorial but I don't have time for that either. I've used some of the freebies here but they still aren't quite what I want. The best I've come across is the X+ List and I export into an excel spreadsheet with modifications. I know this is going to be the main complaint here with the other programmers here. There are always work arounds but this is one that is totally annoying. I am all for change and improvements; X5 has plenty of improvements making it well worth the upgrade but I'm a little baffled they had to kill the "GUI" tool list. Probably something with linking it to the new tool database format but I'm hoping they can bring this old setup list format back.
  12. I have never programmed an OD or ID for that matter Luer Lock thread. I have tried looking in my tool catalogs if there was an insert I could buy with no luck so far. I will have inserts special ground if needed but I'm not even quite sure of what geometry is needed. Hopefully someone here can steer me in the right direction. The BP shows a reference of 25deg (50deg incl). Thanks
  13. CANCEL THAT ITS BACK- I have 3 versions of X installed...X2, X4 and X5. I went in the control panel and reset the status bar in X2 and X4. Reopened X4 and lo and behold it was back. I reset that yesterday but only in X4 pulldown. All I can figure is there is some sharing going on causing the conflict. It is best to have only one version installed not always convenient to do so. thanks,
  14. Strange- My status bar is only half showing on my desktop. Not sure when it happened. I've tried some things I've read here to reset it with no luck. I have X5 installed and the desktop is fine there. I've added a shortcut key to my toolbar to accomadate but I would like to get it back to "normal".
  15. We have tried that G code and thats an option I was told from the tech. We scheduled a service call. I wish I had that book with all the parameters listed and what they do. thanks for you help
