  1. Slammed. Nice Thad.

Anyways, no, I was just bored yesterday so I was browsing thru the just for fun folder on the FTP and downloaded one called human head.mcx. I don't know who made this, but is takes a bugger of a long time to machine. All surface stuff, from .5" endmill (I think) down to a .0625" ball for finish. Very fine finish.

Anyways, most of the cycles run at 7500 rpm + and at least 20 IPM, if not WAY more. And when I backplot I get the time as listed above. Obviously it's wrong.

If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's a pretty cool file....

But I still would like a genuine answer for my inquiry.

  2. Is it just me, or is the cycle time listing still screwed up? I have a part that I ran thru the verify and it took like 35 minutes to do the complete verify. So, I wondered what kind of time it would take, so I did the usual backplot expand/info and my cycle time says 11m:30.27s.

Would this not be 11 hours? I know it did this before MR1...

  3. Thanks guys, both files looked good for the most part. And I understand, for the most part what it is that you are doing in both cases.

But, can I run that 4" cutter closer to the start point where the little cutters lead in because even in both your fixes, there is still a chunck of material in the corner there. biggrin.gif Other then that it looks great.

Is that kind of a standard for making sure you get all the material off from the edges? Either an open or offset method?

  4. I have a part that I have list on the ftp in the MCX folder called MM Latch.mcx.

The first to cycles are just for reference (hence the ghosting) and the last 4, roughing, pocketing, and finishing with smaller tools. I am using a 4" facemill to rough and pocket this and it leaves edges and chunks of material that I don't want it to leave. I realize this is likely something to do with it being unable to compensate for the smaller radius's but I am looking to find out if there is any way to pocket them off, rather then manually bringing the tool in and chopping them out.

    Thanks!

  5. Mark,

I am just asking questions here. Trying to get enough info within last night and today to make an educated remark when asked what I think we should do with the shop in this area.

I'll admit there is a alot more questions/possibilities then I had imagined. I don't think I would require bi-directional, and yes they are on a network to start. No, far as I understand none of the machine are CAT5 friendly, or wireless friendly (currently).

I was thinking about the Cimco Edit option last night a bit and trying to decide if that would just be good enough...then I would have to keep that ungodly data switch from 1972. Ick.

Thanks for all the thoughts and advise so far. Any thing else is truely welcome!

  6. I am in the same boat, Tim. The shop I am heading to has 3 Lathes (2 DNC capable), 3 VMC's, 1 HMC. They are using an old (OLD!) switch box and a seperate computer to do all the DNC stuff. I don't see a need for this, not to mention the space it takes up that I want for other stuff.

I would like to run a link to all the capable machines from my computer, but this boils down to me not knowing the most current best way.

Any advise on this thought would be awesome!

  7. So, if I understand correctly, Steve, you need to purchase the editor as well as the server (DNC Max)?

How do you utalize the dnc from within the editor? In my current shop we have Cimco 5 Edit, and have the ability to transfer to a single machine, but I have not heard of how to transfer to multiple.

  8. Can you give me a brief on how it works, John? I downloaded the demo of CM DNC 5, and it has a server and client. Do you need just the server?

I know nothing about DNC, so any info you (or Steve, of whom I don't know) could provide would be super.

  9. Hey,

Sorry, this may be a little off topic, but I was wondering if any one out there runs this little program. The new shop I am heading to is looking at buying it (cause they have this archaiac system in place that is on a DOS platform). I have a meeting with the big boss in the early afternoon to talk about what I know of DNC and the like.

He asked me to get some opinions from people who have used it/are using it.

    Any takers?

    Thanks!
