    re: Mori Seiki NL2000Y/500

     

    I am wondering how this machine would work on a high-speed(hopefully) aluminum milling/turning job. Lots of surface milling at max feeds and speeds with .50-.750 dia end mills.

     

    Does anyone have any experiance with this machine or a similar model? I am trying to get a feel for how substantial the live tooling heads are and also what the HP is on the live tools and how rigid it would be when milling.

     

    Any info would be much appreciated.

    Yes, It looks like this is because "automatically set to post values when posting" is set in the operation defaults now. This is something new? I just changed the defaults and will try it this way for a while. I actually prefer this, I just haven't gotten around to it until you just now mentioned it.

  3. Hello everybody,

     

    I am having problems with X4 MU3 processing miscellaneous integers.

     

    I am using a CNC software based 5-axis post as I always have. The post I am using is based on the "Generic Haas VF-TR_Series 5X Mill.pst"

     

    Specifically, the problem is that when mi6=1, it with revert to mi6=0 on some or all operations without warning. The value on the operation is perfectly fine and is always on by default.

     

    What happens is that, the software seems to hicupp and post out to the TP origin instead of the WCS origin. The work around is to regen the entire file and post immediately or don't use this function.

     

    I have been using the mi6=1 function since V9 and have never had a problem. Actually, this function has always worked perfect for me and is certainly a time saver for programming.

     

    Does anyone else see this issue?

  4. Hello Jay,

     

    X4 MU3 actually runs fine except with larger files. IE: 80mb 200+ ops + several large stls's for rest roughing. Even then, it runs fine except for more crashes than I would like. I just can't deal with major blow ups on parts like this. My point was X2 will be fine with the same part on the same box.

    The big bummer is that X2 handles parts like this just fine. I also did the same type of parts with V9 using an AMD Athlon 64 3200+. No problems at all.

     

    I suppose it has to do with allocations and stuff. I could not of planned for it is all.

     

    What about you, do you have crashes?

  6. I really appreciate all of the input from everyone. Unfortunately, it seems like there really isn't much of a pattern here.

     

    One of my main concerns is the Quadro FX 1400. It is kind of old. I will purchase a newer generation card and try it at some point. After that, I will be stumped.

  7. Hello everybody,

     

    I just switched from X2MR2sp1 to X4 MU3 and am having some pretty serious problems with crashes on larger files. Everything usually runs fine with the smaller ones, but once the file size exceed 50mb and contains many ops and such, I get random crashes. X2MR2sp1 will run perfectly using same computer and part file type. SolidWorks and everything else runs fine also. I haven't spent too much time troubleshooting as I have been trying to finish a job, but unfortunately, the crashes finally caused by Raid controller to scramble and I lost several days.

     

    Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me? I am wondering if its a freak thing on my computer or just the way X4 is.

  8. It depends if you are using oil or coolant (water based) and what type of tap and machine as you must have the power at low rpm. If coolant and standard tap and machine, I usually go slow. Something in the range of 10-15sfm would be fine. It's about 40% of what the book (OSG) would say. By the way, I always recommend tapering the hole using a taper pipe reamer or 1-1/2 deg em. This makes for much easier tapping and less chance of tap failure.

  9. Hello Leandro,

     

    Mastercam is not accounting for the axis accelerations and decelerations as all machines are very different. Anyhow, you may be able to adjust your acc/decs by using look-ahead/high-speed codes in the gcode. You might want to check out the mpmaster post and high-speed doc.
