I'm absolutely positive there is good reason why thousands of people, including myself, choose M/C in this area over any other software on the market.
-
Fred,
If you can, print out with a resolution of 300dpi. also change the settings from standard or economy to printing best quality.

Now that I see my entire financial future up in smoke what do I have to look forward to regarding makeup, shoes, purses, PMS etc. Is this an added treat?. ROTF-crying

Hey Charles,
I could reel off a few names of people using proman very successfully. You should see some of the trick stuff they're accomplishing! As Kathy said this is apples and oranges. The place of business I referred to earlier has all engineers making models in pro-e. These in turn are fired off to the in-house machine shop using pro-man. In this case it works out well within the bounds of their situation. All companies need to consider what software best suits their needs.

Bryan,
what your requesting then has nothing to do with probing but rather that M/C determines where it's at in four hours of running then automatically change tools and continue where it left off? Is it possible to put this tool into subs without hours of editing?

A gentleman that was my mentor in the machining industry and also who I learned M/C from has had many years in the trade as a programmer. As time moved on he more recently started to learn and use pro/e with pro/manufacturing in the medical industry. Now quite proficient at this software I asked him the question how it compares to M/C. His initial thoughts was it is a, "totally different animal, extensive learning curve, and entirely different UI." He added the words, "once you get used to it the paths on heavy 3-4 axis work smokes Mastercam." This software like NCL are indeed big boy softwares with very heafty price tags. jm2c

Oh no I have three girls ages 13,11, and 2. What have I done? Should I put the gun to my Knoggin right now?
-
Greg,
Have you ever tried CGS carb e-mills? They work like a dream reducing/eliminating chatter due to the wierd cutter geometry. You can bury the hatchet and get beutiful finishes at higher feed rates.
-
Jamman,
I believe I still have it tucked away in the files. Let me find it and e-mail it to ya. Your server doesn't have executable block on does it?

James,
That system should treat you right. I've been using a AMD550 with just about the same specs for a couple of years now. It worked like a champ. The powers that be wanted me to go with a more mobile system so I now have a lap top.
How's the business going in southern Ca?

luther,
There are many different answers to your questions. Some Customers are hack shops and all they want is 1x depth of cut/ finish pass and they will take care of the rest.... Other shops want a perfect, flawless, and optimal program with set up books tool lists etc etc usually because they have less than qualified help setting jobs up! If you can work with people/shops that are familiar with your work and style that would be a good start then word of mouth gets around for more customers. To keep yourself busy you might have to heavily shop around. I try not to bid on jobs but charge time only and it works out pretty good for some extra money. I hope this hels a little.

I know the bossman would like just one function added:
A program button! This button any Joe schmoe could punch and Mastercam would intelligently produce a flawless G-code program.
Imagine that, intelligent programming!
OK How about this one, automatic branch point recognition without breaking lines. I can't say the number of times I had to break a line after toolpaths were established and then have to go back and redo the 15 tools that it affected. After breaking a line the only alternative i have seen is to chain the geometry again.
On other threads I have already expressed my desire for better engraving capabilities.

perhaps that would do the trick
I was thinking there is good reason high end places of business hire top notch hackers for security. because They know all the tricks and secrets to exploit software. Maybe that's what Mastercam needs to do.... hire a hacker to help develop the ultimate inpenatrable system.
-
James,
What would be stopping a determined person (thief) from figuring out how to duplicate the code on the card and create some work around?
-
Bobcad . NO NO NO I haven't even seen Bobcad in about 15 years now! It was just a thought to be able to see and edit the g-code quickly if needed. I know one can do some changes to g-code within M/C right now but this was just something different to bring to the table. In my opinion there are certain features of other cad/cam systems that are better than Mastercam so it's by posting these wishes that perhaps one day they could all be included . I leave reitterating jm2c!
-
While i'm at it how about a small splash screen that comes up as your programming that displays what would be that operations posted g-code. The g-code would be based on the currently loaded post processor.

James,
I had to take the statement you quoted earlier with a big grain of salt as well. I have heard of to many pirated versions (8.1)that work flawlessly to believe there is some code tie-in. It boils down to there is just alot of good hackers with a personal mission to break anything they can and do!
I only mentioned that because out local rep said the key is part of the chain and code will be junk if using cracked copies.
-
Chrisd,
I have used for years (until I got my burner)100mb zip drive piggy back on the dongle with no problems. NT4.0 sp6
I might add a burner is very cool
-
One gripe of mine is the pocketing paths the system generates with islands. Very inefficient! It would be cool to force the tool to stay within certain parameters as it works around islands or other features from one side to another. For some reason the system now will mill part of one side then go to the other side then back to the first side again.
-
What is a perferated card ????
-
Hey guys,
From what our Rep tells me the dongle does complete the algorithim circuit for some calculations. I dont know which ones but apparently if using pirated software the produced G-Code will be junk in some instances. Perhaps this is a anti-piracy scare speech but sounds good.

You guys are making me feel young!!!
-
James,
I'm here! What races are you going to? Some of us just went to the Autolight Nationals in Sanoma. What a rush... 5000-6000 hp of pure nitro burning fun.
-
Surface,
Look at the code. It is I/J format.
Dxclark,
That comment "look what Masercam puked out for me" is just killing me.
