  1. Create the font then go to edit>trim/break>break drafting entities. After that add a cross hatch with a close spacing and window chain all of the notes you want filled in.
  2. I can't give you any specific examples but if you Google "Swiss Machining" there is some pretty decent examples under the "images" tab.
  3. I know the post block is in the encrypted section because after searching for it in the post it comes up with no search results other than in other post blocks where it is calling it. I did contact the reseller and they are looking into a post that already has all of these options built in but I figured in the mean time I would mess with it for a while. At least I am getting some more experience with editing the post processors.
  4. Hello All, I am attempting to edit the Generic Fanuc 5X.pst file in order to get the proper output for some of the 5 axis toolpaths that we are running. The post gives me good code out of the box but we would like to attempt to program the 5 axis toolpaths with the TCP and 3D cutter compensation commands in the code. I have been looking at this now for two days and after trying a few things I have finally given up before I have a mental melt down. I am sure what I am trying to do is simple and I am overlooking something but if somone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. The main problem that I am having is that we are going from a normal 2D contour to a 5-Axis curve toolpath using the same tool and the null toolchange block is not giving me the proper format. There is a section of this post that is encrypted that contains the post block "psof_tlchg_blck" and I think if I could see this one I would be able to format the output correctly. Here is what I am getting: ( 5 AXIS MILL 75 DEGREE CONE ) G43.5 H1 M11 M69 X8.94 Y-47.048 Z138.696 C90. A-15. Z118.696 G1 G41.2 D1 Z108.696 Here is what I want: ( 5 AXIS MILL 75 DEGREE CONE ) M11 M69 X8.94 Y-47.048 Z138.696 C90. A-15. G43.5 H1 Z118.696 <---Move the G43.5 after the X, Y, Z, C, and A positioning. G1 G41.2 D1 Z108.696 When I force a toolchanger between these two operations I get what I am looking for but this means that I would always have to remeber to force the toolchange when doing this type of operation. This may be the fix for the time being if I can't figure out anything else. I appologize if this does not make sense but if anyone has any suggestions I would gladly give more detail or explain as best I can if it helps. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  5. I think if I can get everyone to buy in on the upgrade then we will most likely wait until the MU since this seems to be the most robust version of each of the releases. I greatly appreciate all of the feedback and advice. Hopefully we can get the newest version as soon as the MU releases.
  6. Here at my company we are a maintenace customer of Mastercam and we are currently running Mastercam X4 MU2. In order to upgrade to any new version of Mastercam or any software in general we are required to "validate" it and prove that it does what it is supposed to do. I don't necessarily agree with this process but we must do it regardless. I would like to know anyone's opinion on upgrading from Mastercam X4 to X5 to see if it is worth all of the work we must do in the engineering department to implement this new version. If there is nothing special or you don't recommend it then I may just wait until X6. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks
  7. RandleXX This works like a charm. Thanks for the help!
  8. I did mess with the machine def. settings and it does work if the shortest distance is negative as a opposed to a positive move. In this case the shortest distance is not there because it is the same travel in both directions (+180deg / -180deg). I input some travel limits thinking that when it hit the travel limit it would reverse to try to orient the part correctly. This does not work either, it just outputs a prompt in MC and also in the code saying an axis limit was reached. I am still messing with it so hopefully I can find something that makes it work.
  9. I am stuck... I am trying to program a Fanuc Robodrill with a trunion style 4th axis. When I program the front of the part the axis indexes to A90. but when I flip the planes to machine the back of the part I want the post to output A-90. Currently the post is outputting A270. and this has the potential to crash the workpiece into the table under the 4th axis. Can anyone shed some light on this? I did a search on the forum and came up with nothing that would help me.
  10. I am fairly new to computer programming in general but I am very interested in learning more about the Mastercam Post Processor language and maybe even some Visual Basic (I was told that understanding VB helps when editing posts). I have edited several post with success but there is still portions that I do not fully understand. Is there somewhere that everyone recommends (website, classes, etc.) that help to learn more about this stuff? I have taken a basic post editing class and I did pretty well catching on but they obviously don't cover everything. Let me know if anyone has a good source to check out.
  11. Thanks for all the help guys I am going to get the ball rolling on the training and I will be in contact with any more questions.
  12. Hello All, I have been put in charge of the CAM system (Mastercam) here at my shop and I need some pointers on getting programmers up to speed using Mastercam. I myself have been through several trainings at the local re-seller and also had a lot of exposure to Mastercam in college. Because of time contraints here at my company most guys do not have the opportunity to attend the formal training sessions. I have been given the task to begin a training program for some programmers that are interested in learning more about Mastercam. I am going to get a survey circulating to see exactly where everyone's level of understanding is to begin. Does anyone have any generic questions that may help me capture the necessary levels of understanding? Also is there any pointers anyone has as far as the approach to take when teaching someone that has limited knowledge of Mastercam. The guys in my shop are all at different levels, some are advanced and some are very green. I need a program that is going to cater to both the advanced guys and the guys that need to know the fundementals. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
  13. I actually have a post for our Mitsi EDM and it works somewhat well. I am also trying to get Prism in house to do a training session with a few engineers. Thanks for the input everyone
  14. Does anyone have a good post for Mistsubishi Wire EDM. I am using Mastercam X MR2
