  1. Hey Tyler, back at ya... the machines in question are CNC machining centers... using the same post for multiple machines. I think the post from Cuda84 is going to be right on the money... he used to work here and he had our post set up to only post G54 and I think from updating these posts to newer versions of Mastercam it has reverted back. I have Fastech in Findlay, Ohio looking into it now... as soon as I hear from them, I will post what I find on this forum... If anyone else has any ideas, I am definitely all ears...
  2. Good to hear from ya Dave! Yeah I think you may be on to something... when I switched to X4 I ran the update post utility... I bet that's what happened... I will relay that to Fastech and see what they come up with... Thanks...
  3. Amen to that Bullet Bob... like I said in my first post, I got lucky that the spindle went up instead of thru the part or into the table. Is this problem strictly an X4 issue or has it happened with past versions? And yeah, why can't we set a default for the work offset? It seems like that would make a lot of sense...
  4. To Rickster: Yes, I did try re-picking the mmd... one of the first things I tried... didn't help in this case... Gibbs: yeah, I'm gonna have to do that from now on unless someone comes up with a better solution... what is most frustrating is that I've been using Mastercam for years, and in particular X4 for quite some time and this has never happened til now... caught me by surprise (the operator too from what I heard) owe him a beer for scaring the crap outta him!!! Any one else with ideas?
  5. I'm running Mastercam X4 MU3...Twice in the last 2 weeks I have had a toolpath post out with a G55 instead of G54. This happens when I have booked multiple toolpaths under one filename. I was able to repeat this with one of my Mastercam files but not the other. The first time it happened, I posted the toolpath where the G55 showed up by itself and it posted with G54. When I booked it together again with the other 2 it posted G54 for the first toolpath, G55 for the 2nd toolpath and switched back to G54 for the last toolpath. This has only happened twice out of thousands of toolpaths I have posted. I'm getting my butt chewed and I don't like it very much... Fortunately it has sent the spindle to maximum Z instead of into the table, but one of these times I ain't gonna be so lucky...HELP!!! Has any one else seen this issue?
  6. Rich, I was getting the same warning and I was "saving" it but the changes wouldn't stick for some reason... Thad's suggestion to go thru the machine group worked without having to take the extra step of "saving" it and I learned something new in the process. Thanks again for all the help. Beers all around!
  7. Q. Are you pressing the button "Save default settings" after changing your defaults? It's directly below the list of operations. A. No, I had not done that... I went back and tried it again doing that and it worked. Thanks to BenK and Rich Thomas for the help. I don't recall having to do that in previous versions, is this something new?
  8. I went "settings" "control definition" "operation defaults" and my settings will NOT save...
  9. I recently started using X4 (from X2) and have tried setting my operation defaults in control definition to my preferred settings and they won't stick. I've already been burned twice for this. One of my co-workers is using the same version of X4 and isn't having this problem!!! What is the problem now? How can I get my operation defaults to stick????? Once again Mastercam seems to be taking steps backwards instead of making steps forward to improve their product!!!!
  10. Cool, thanks guys! The tool renumbering issue will be nice to have back when they release MU1... any ideas on how soon that will be?
  11. I jumped from X2 to X4 recently... (didn't bother with X3 'cause of all the problems) In X2 when I wanted to re-number tools for a drill op, I right clicked the toolpath group and selected "re-number tools", set the starting tool # to 1 and clicked ok and my tools would be re-numbered sequentially from 1 on up... X4 this doesn't work... is this a config I have set up wrong, or is it just anther glitch in X4? Also, it has always seemed like MC has a habit of workplanes changing unexpectedly... this has caused some major headaches in the past if it changes without being noticed... X4 seems to be even worse. For example: using the graphics view icons on the tool bar at the top, I click on "front" view and the file I'm working on will switch to a front view, but the T/CPlane will also change to "front" view. I don't want my work planes changing at all unless I tell it too. Again, is this a config issue or is it just another in a long line of MCglitches??? I'm finding myself going back and re-doing work because of this and it gets frustrating to have to do a simple task repeatedly... [ 09-24-2009, 08:55 AM: Message edited by: Trevorius_Maximus ]
  12. I think I may have answered my last question... I ended up shutting down and re-starting MCX4 and then merging a file worked the way I wanted it to... seems that sometimes when changing something in the config file it is necesary to close Mastercam and restart to take effect... I had not noticed that before... thanks for the help Ocean Lacky... owe you a beer sometime...
  13. I checked my config settings and set them exactly the same as the settings I was using for X2 and I still find that when I merge the new file it will change to whatever color is currently set for geometry. I can then change the colors, unlike before, but when using X2 the file would merge without changing the colors...Having the colors set "as is" is important as each color represents a certain feature... Not to mention the extra time it takes to change them back. Ocean Lacky, you had mentioned "disabling" this in the config file, but I don't see a way to do this... any more ideas?
  14. In addition to my questions above, I found that I can choose to use "New Attributes" and change the color but as soon as I click "ok" it still changes back to a color I don't want (red)... "clear colors" doesn't work... I've even tried to just change the colors back to the way they are supposed to come in and X4 won't even do that, it still stays red... anyone got any ideas?
  15. I'm just now starting to jump into X4... one of the first things I've noticed is that when doing a "File Merge/Pattern", which is something I use a lot, when I click "ok" to accept the incoming file the color changes to something I don't want... Is there something in my config file to change to accept the attributes as they come in?...Is there some other means of maintaining the attributes? Or is this just another of the glitches that seems to pop up in new versions of Mastercam?
