  1. We use a product made by Hawkeye Industries, Duratech grey surfacing primer. It is a two part system, in both polyester and vinylester resin bases, they also have a lot of other stuff that may interest you. Brian
  2. Thanks Colin, I understand now. Brian
  3. I have the same problems with .STL files becoming very large with multiple verifies. Is there something "wrong" with the way verify creates and saves .STL files that you would have to use an editor to reduce the number of triangles in the .STL? When you use an editor to reduce the number of triangles does it affect the accuracy of the .STL for use in compare to .STL? Thanks, Brian
  4. I have fixed the strange parts of the toolpath, it seems that adjusting the amount of material left on the check surfaces fixed it. It still is not exactly what I would expect. Why does the edge of the toolpath come straight down, instead of following the angled edge of the surface? Then why does the toolpath make one pass at the very bottom out to the edge of the check surface? I have tried to change every other setting recommended, or otherwise with no better toolpath.
  5. Ok, Gap setting is 300% of stepdown. I tried changing the roll tool at surface edge settings from automatic to only between surfaces, it took forever to update and really didn't change the result. Just added .0001 to leave on check surfaces, changed the funky stuff a little. The front wall is vertical, the surfaces are created from an Inventor solid with no changes, could they still not match up perfectly? Thanks, Brian
  6. I have been having some strange things happening with some of the toolpaths that I have been working on lately (see screenshot). The surfaces on the left are check surfaces and the other surfaces are drive surfaces, the max. stepdown is .02, the transition is set to follow surface, conventional cut. I have tried to change settings to eliminate the short little cuts that don't seem to be following a surface, with no luck. Is there any reason to be seeing these strange cuts? Thanks, Brian
  7. Toolman184, Do you have "Use True Solid" box checked in the verify options? I am working on another file and can save the .STL with MR2. Brian
  8. My reseller is Thermwood, they are in southern Indiana, I don't feel like driving 11 hrs. to do this. I think someone who does surfacing toolpaths would be more helpfull. Brian
  9. Is there anyone in/near western Pa who would consider tutoring me in X2 router? Especially for some of the projects that we are working on. I have done the training offered by Thermwood, it is a little generic, I am unsure of how the best way to handle some of the surfacing that we need to do. I feel that I am wasting a lot of time and not getting anywhere. Thanks, Brian
  10. I have tried both settings, could the toolpath be causing the problem? Brian
  11. I found the settings they appear to be set to binary as a default. Brian
  12. Thanks Colin, How do I find where to change the setting? Brian
  13. Ok, next problem, I have been trying to verify through my toolpaths to see how they affect the finished part and sometimes when I try to save the STL I get a file with 0Kb. I have used X2, X2 MR1 SP1, and X2 MR2 and have had the same problem with the first two, with X2 MR2 I get a warning, but still no Kb's. This happens intermittently and it seems that once I verify a toolpath that does this I can't get a good STL afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas?
  14. Dennis, It is kinda spooky, looks like you are using the same computer as well. How was processing time for the file you where working on? Brian
  15. No I haven't been able to get past the logon, but I haven't tried lately. I would use my logon for the forums to get on the ftp, correct? Brian
  16. Ron, I'm thinking about using a v-groove cutter and a 3D contour toolpath following the curve of the edge of the spiral. I may have to do a different toolpath in two areas, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I think that in those areas we could use a 1/8" ball end mill and live with the radius left. Thanks, Brian
  17. Well I have the 4th and 5th axis, the mold(pattern) is MDF. The sharp corners that I need are the inside corners along the edges of the spiral as it is 1/4 of the finished part and I need it to match up perfectly. Brian
  18. Thanks all, I am trying filtering, 2:1 with .001 tolerance, it has taken the size of the cutting file from ~5Mb to ~.8Mb. Pretty good considering when I started the initial cutting file size was ~500Mb. Verify now seems to work, will verify give me any warning of a crash? or will I find the crash on the machine? This is the mold that I am working on, it is 112.5"x30.5"x8" and is one quarter of the total project. I am trying to cut an inside corner sharp, is there an easy way to do it? Brian
  19. I have been pulling my hair out over some large toolpaths/ files and someone suggested filtering my toolpaths. I did it and the toolpaths got much smaller. We where told by our instructor not to use filtering as the post processor for Thermwood Routers had some problems with it. Can I create a toolpath with filtering on, verify it, and then change it to unfiltered? Would there be any difference in how the verify looks or how the file is posted? Brian
  20. This is what I see when I look at Mastercam after the toolpath verify is done. If I have a window over the Mastercam window and close or minimize it it stays for 30 seconds and Mastercam doesn't respond.
  21. I've tried to post to the ftp I can't get past the login, should I use my login info from the forums? Brian
  22. Gary, I'll try, how do I post it on the ftp? Justin, We where told that our post processor has a hard time with filtering, we are using a Thermwood Machine. Thanks, Brian
  23. If I remember correctly we had errors when we opened the stl to use for the next operation when using turbo. Tried saving the stl again, still 0Kb, then locked up. Brian
  24. I broke the part up into smaller peices and got a verify done. I tried to save the .stl, and when I look at the properties for it, the file size is 0Kb????? Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks, Brian
  25. I'll try setting the tool tolerance higher, I can't use turbo mode as I want to save the .stl and us it in another toolpath. Thanks, Brian
