Okumas are very high quality machines, no sensitive issues whatsoever. OSP is a very nice control. Its Okumas own control, runs ISO Programmes.

what made you come from Powermill to MC? you must be missing PM for sure.

Featurcam was an American made, later bought by Delcam, So do not assume it is brilliant !! as Powermill software.

Delcam just owns it.

If you were still using MC6, till 2011!!! do not worry you'll be much much fine with MC X5. do not distract from path.

Change is good, but MC6 to X5 is quite good enough!!

Feature base machining recognition - Ask yourself if your parts are alike need FBM.

Hi Mic , thanks for your honest reply, About NREC I heard there are only 100 users (across globe)? You are no doubt right that skilled programmer can do almost every thing with Mastercam, but you also know that What powermill can do, mastercam is not near to it when it comes to Molds. Thats the reason I raised this topic to learn about strengths of softwares so we can use the right tool for the right job.

Any more users have something to share.

There are different sectors of machining:-

2.5 axis - 2D work.

3 axis - Mold, 3D work.

4 axis - Blades, Roller/Cams.

5 axis - Mold, Aerospace, Impellar, Port.

Lathe - 2 Axis Lathe.

Depends on the simplicity of jobs, If slyym claims that in 10 years had not no difficulty creating , then may the company slyyms work

is dealing with straight forward 2d type parts ( may not have tried doing Chamfer on a cross hole drilled on a pipe/cylinder!!!)

However if company has funds, and boss agrees then by all means let the new technology come. Infact it is companys expansion by buying a special design tool.

Transition takes little time , after little extensive use of MC, you'll find it comfy doing cad in mastercam.

1-Machine tools have parameter for back lash compensation adjustment. Check? and you can tighten up the electronic setting.

2-If your machine tool has tolerance(nurbs control) , check if it is switched on and have the right values set for the kind of toolpath you are doing.

3 Dont feed too fast.

Edm or Wirecut filters you can make use of. I dont know?

Randle got the point in right diretion without ballnosing it.

It will need trick and playing around to get optimum center line toolpath for a ball nose cutter.

Once you got the center line close to correct, you can drive your cutter with 3d contour.

I think same issue with assigning colors?, you can change on the fly but how you configure to stay permanent?

Model it up and surface ball nose it.
