  1. This is the case as it turns out. The solid file was updated and the print was not. The customer would like the parts made to cad and will be supplying new prints. The PO does not specify either way.
  2. I programmed a fairly complex part this week and QA found some features out of tolerance at 1st pc inspection. It turns out the customer supplied solid cad file does not match their print. The print has 350ish dimensions. How many of you verify cad matches print before applying cutter paths?
  3. Whats a good way to save and control backups of Mastercam and gcode files? The boss wants to make the Mastercam files read only so when you open it, make a change and want to save it you have to do a save as and roll an "internal rev". This way if you want to go back a couple process revs you can easily. He would like to do the same with the gcode.
  4. Anybody know what Pitney Bowes Material R2820 is?
  5. Yes, I have double clicked files in the past and it always worked fine. No one on this forum launches from the file?
  6. I have uninstalled all versions of Mastercam and installed X6. I then associated older files to open in X6 but they open up with no operations or geometry. If I launch Mastercam first and then open old files I get the geometry and operations depending on how old the Mastercam file was. Is this a bug or do I have something set wrong on my PC?
  7. First time using FTP site, I hope I did it right. File is ENGRAVING TEST.MCX-5 in mastercam_forum/X5_files folder
  8. Thanks, I am using X5 and did check the roughing check box but it only cuts the perimeter.
  9. I would like the whole letter engraved, not just the perimeter. I would also like the engraving toolpath to lift up in the corners sharpening the corners.
  10. My first time trying to use the engraving op and I am failing. I can only get the path to engrave the perimeter. The font used is wider in areas and I would like the engraving tool to cut the center then perimeter. What am I doing wrong?
  11. How do you guys plan potential scrap when quoting, processing and executing jobs? Picture this: Contract job shop environment 100 pc order Inexpensive material .5"x1"x2" 6061 Cycle time 10 minutes per part Manually load 4 stations to complete part A couple tight tolerances Outside service - Anodize How much extra material do you order? Do you consider a couple parts lost in setup normal? Do you consider lost parts in production a failure in the process? I'm curious how the rest of the world handles this
  12. Spade has this issue fixed but I just ran into another. I have multiple work offsets that have the same "B". In my program I machine some features @ G56 B270 then move to the other side of the tombstone and machine @ G57 but the post is not posting a B. How can I force B outputs for all work offset changes?
  13. I have the Harvey book open and have left a voice mail with Harvey looking for help. They have 2 flute cutters and pointed cutters. It looks to me like the 1/8" 2 flute 90° included .010 web thickness cutter #50408 will do the trick. Anyone have experience with the 2 flt compared to the tipped off half round cutters?
  14. I have a new project which requires engraving text .005-.010 deep into 6061-T6. I have just used a #0 centerdrill in the past and it did the job good enough. I need this engraving to look better and am looking for recommendations for a nice cutter. The sample part I received looks like it was createdwith a .012" dia tip engraving tool.
  15. I did make it a bullmill. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong or if it was a bug. Thanks to all who replied
  16. Facemill with corner rad what am I doing wrong? I want to create a new 2" dia facemill, straight 90° insert with .079 corner rad. Mastercam puts a big red x on the tool page when I apply the corner rad.
  17. Thanks gcode. I never used select before. That would have been alot easier.
  18. We have used cordinate rotation many times but I get a lot of complaints that it is confusing when a shift needs to be done. Actually the Matsuura machine I need to put it in can just put the r90 in the work offset without the G68s/69s. What I really want to know is how is it best handled thru Mastercam so the G code Xs and Ys match reality. What I did was save the original MC file as part#-matsuura.MCX because I was affraid of screwing up the good Kitamura file. First I rotated geometry 90 degs so its like the new setup. Next I created 6 new WCSs for my rotations. I opened up each of the 60 operations one at a time and changed the planes to the new wcs. All of the facing operations needed to be rotated 90 also. This seemed to have worked but there must be an easier way. Did I do too much? Could I have cut out some of these steps?
  19. I have a question on what is the best way to handle the following situation. Part is processed and programmed for a rotary index 2 pallet Kitamura with the Hass 5C indexer pointing in the Y+ direction. Part runs fine for the first run but there are scheduling conflicts for the next run and I am asked to repost to a different machine with the indexer pointing in the X- direction. What is the fastest and easiest way to do this?
  20. I forgot to mention I need to do this to many thousands of parts. Speed is an issue. I have never bought or used a gun drill before. Does any recommend a manufacturer or sales rep I should contact?
  21. Just talked to OSG and they do not have anything close as a standard that will work.
  22. I need to create a .752 +.002/-0 hole thru 8" of 6061-T6. I was hoping to find a stock replaceable drill point drill to rough material and then ream to size. I have never had to drill so deep before. What would you guys recommend?
  23. http://www.emastercam.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...t=000015#000000 Anything happening with this yet? I am programming a part using a 60° centerdrill to drill off center holes in the side of a shaft. I would like to time in edge breaks using verify but the current tip of the tool is drilling the holes oversize.
