  1. So this is my first attempt at using the dynamic milling toolpaths. I am having trouble getting things to work. I have a plate with 6 seperate pockets in it. The problem is after chaining all the pockets and regening the op. I only get a toolpath for the first pocket. If I use just a regular pocket toolpath it backplots toolpaths for all the pockets as per usual. When using the dynamic milling strategies do I need to create an operation for each pocket or is there a way to link all the geo to one operation? Oh and I am using the dynamic area mill toolpath. I could also use some advice on some settings for milling these pockets. I am using a .500 4 flute kennametal Harvi endmill in 6061 aluminum. I was thinking about a .500-1. inch doc. If I have the horspower. What would be the best stepover amount, would microlift be a good option and if so what would a safe starting point be for approching this job? I am also curious about the first pass in a pocket when dynamic milling. The cutter will be cutting at a 100 percent stepover and a huge depth of cut. This is a foreign concept to the way I have always machined. I am guessing that the trocoidial cutting is how this is overcome? Any advice or explinations would be super since I am pretty new to the dynamic milling thing. Thanks Jim
  2. Still getting no where with this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the setpoint software. I updated it as well. I ve tried every setting I can think of in setpoint and Ive updated windows too. All to no avail. Perhaps its something I am going to have to live with. Just to reiterate the problem. When I open any MC file it opens as per usual but after about 10 seconds the screen feezes and is non responsive I cannot do anything, then the screen turns black fo r about 10-30 seconds and then everything go back to normal. After closer inspection it seems that all the toolbars black out. There is still lines dividing some things like the workspace and toolbar area. Also the blue header is still at the top of the screen and usually says (not responding) if I touch any keys. Dunno what to do. I called logitech but my call was dropped 4 times and it seemed like a waste of time anyway. This is frustrating!
  3. I picked up a Logitech performance mx mouse about 2 weeks ago. I thought this mouse would be the cats a$$ but I have noticed some conflicts when using it with Mastercam. The mouse came with its own software so yo can totally customize it and it has a feature that with the click of a button will show any window that is minimized on screen at the same time. So you can choose the one you want with out having to open a bunch of tabs to find the one you want. Anyway since I installed the software I have been having a problem when opening MC files. Basically what happens is, when you choose a file to open, it opens as per usual... then the sceen goes white for around 5-10 seconds. Then it finally opens and you can proceed. This has been a big frustration when opening larger files because this white sceen will come up before the file is totally loaded and everything seems to jam up and on occasion even crash. I have uninstalled the software for the mouse and everything has returned to normal. Now I am left wondering why the hell I bought a $100 mouse if it dosent work with MC. Has anyone else excperienced this or is anyone using this mouse. Is there a fix for this problem or am I out of luck one week past the refund date on my reciept? Thanks
  4. I Had some time to play around today and I ve seemed to have kinda solved some of my problem. In the tool wear offset page on my Haas I had a value of -.003" I set this to 0.0" and my alarm issue went away. There are some .0625" rads in this pocket so I am thinking that the machine thinks that the tool is too big to fit into these areas with the wear value applied. I am not 100 percent sure how the machine applies the wear offset. I didnt think that this would be an issue since the G code doesnt change. I had it in my head that everything would still machine as if the cutter was on still size even though it was offset the amount the tool was worn to compensate. Is there a way around this?
  5. Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted when I solve this.
  6. Identical start point identical geometry. Actually I got this alarm yesterday on a toolpath transform rotate. The first pocket machines fine as kind and alarms on the second.
  7. I am using the setting "wear" in the finish pass selection screen. I assume that the cutter comp is only applied to the finish pass and not the roughing cycle. I am finishing the pocket completly before moving on to the next pocket. Perhaps if I roughed all the pockets before finishing them I would have better results. I really dont want to do it that way though.
  8. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I am running a program with about 50 identical pockets. I have been using a .125" endmill to shape them and have been finding the pockets gradually get smaller as I near completion. I have programed a tool change at about the half way mark so I can either change tools or adjust the wear offset. The trouble is I keep getting an alarm telling me that I have a cutter comp interference problem on the second pocket when running the finish pass. I am puzzled about this since I do not get an alarm on the first pocket only the second. Also Mastercam insnt giving me any Comp warnings. Has anyone encountered this before? I am sure its most likely something simple that I am overlooking. Thanks for any help!
